County Monaghan - Description : County Monaghan’s undulating countryside is a relaxing haven of lakes, gentle hills, farmhouses and market towns. Carrickmacross is renowned for its traditional crafts, especially lace-making. Monaghan Town and Clones, County Monaghan Monaghan's county town lies to the northwest of the county, and is a thriving agricultural centre with an impressive cathedral and courthouse. The County Museum is located there, and the Patrick Kavanagh Literary Resource Centre is nearby. Clones is famous for its crochet lace industry, and also as the hometown of the boxer, Barry McGuigan - the 'Clones Cyclone'. It has an interesting 11th century high cross, and a round tower.
